October 19th-23rd Successes!

Well, we had a great week!  We did not quite get to everything we planned to get to, but it was a productive week nonetheless.  In religion, we discussed the importance of reaching out to the senior citizens of our parish, we discussed the format and purpose of writing a friendly letter, and we completed our first prayer partner letter to our senior citizen prayer partner. In literacy, we worked REALLY hard on editing and revising our research papers. Final drafts of these papers are due on Monday, October 26th.  In social studies, we looked at examples of strong tri-fold boards and planned how ours were going to look.  Once we finished that, we began working on our boards.  As of today, they are finished! In science, we took a final assessment on plate tectonics and the layers of the Earth. These were open notebook exams which went much better than our open note exams a few weeks ago.  In science, we also talked about the planets of Venus, Jupiter, and Mars being visible in our current night sky.  Right now they are lining up to form an oblique line.  Check them out!  In math, we self-assessed and talked about making corrections over this weekend. This week's corrections are due this coming Monday.

October 12th-16th Successes!

This week was a great, productive 4 day week!  We worked extremely hard on finishing our country research notes in social studies.  We even transferred those notes into strong paragraphs for our 5 paragraph research paper. We also began our Earth Science unit by recalling what we knew previously about the layers of the Earth and plate tectonics.  We had amazing recall during this discussion, remembering a lot from fifth grade.  This allowed us to move ahead quickly and watch a video about the layers of the Earth and do a plate tectonics lab.  In religion, we made Confirmation cards for our Confirmation prayer buddies (we have been praying for them for more than a year).  Additionally, we began to become familiar with what Morality was.  Many of us made connections between the word Morality and the "moral" of a story. Math went well this week too, as we all practiced checking over our work with peers and parents at night, before turning it in.  In LIteracy, we focused on writing, specifically writing research papers.  Overall, this week, we demonstrated maturity and responsibility in our discussions and work ethic.
